Victorian Vibes

Last week, on Halloween, I took my MIL for an eye appointment and decided to wear this…

I must admit, I kinda sorta felt like this upcycled hoodie was a bit on the costume-y side.

To me, for some reason, it reminds me of something the Beatles wore back in the day.

My son asked me why I was wearing doilies.

When my MIL saw me she said, “Oh, I didn’t recognize you. You look like a little girl.”

That’s when I realized that this looks Victorian. After all, my MIL was born in 1926 and I’m guessing that this was in style when SHE was a little girl?!

Either way, I fit right in with my ‘costume’. 😉

Side note:

Here is Adam, on the far right (with his co-workers) as the March Hare from Alice in Wonderland.

He and I put his costume together for $20 with pieces from Savers, of course! I even convinced ‘Alice’ to buy her costume from Savers. She had never stepped foot inside a thrift store before. Needless to say, she was impressed AND overwhelmed, as first time thrifters usually are.

  1. Your son and his co-workers scored big in the Halloween costume department!! SAVERS rules!
Your outfit was slightly old-fashion and yet the hoodie was today! I understand why your mother-in-law thought felt it was familiar.

    1. Old fashioned is exactly right. I like how she made it modern with the gray hoodie. The quality and craftsmanship is great on this, but had I seen it on me, I probably would not have purchased it. It IS super comfy though!

  2. But I think the sweatshirt adds some dichotomy to the entire look. Sure, it looks Victorian with the lace, but then with the leopard sneakers…you are modern cool.

  3. Hmmmm. I’d probably have seen it hanging up and wanted to buy it, too, Darlene. But I kind of agree with you with it on. I’d likely end up wearing it around the house with fleece pants since it’s comfy. Or maybe go edgy and wear it with a black tee shirt under it and not something light-colored. Maybe a graphic dark gray and black Ozzy Osbourne tee rather than a seasonal fall tee? I’d definitely go with black boots with it. And keep the hood down so the ruffles drip down your back rather than framing your face. OK. Now I’m into it. And I love that you helped your son put together his outfit AND were able to introduce someone new to thrifting! Your job here is done!
